Restorative Medicine is the clinical medical therapeutic approach aimed at restoring organ function and endocrine balance on a functional level. The Association for the Advancement of Restorative Medicine (AARM) is a leading multidisciplinary non-profit professional medical association seeking to educate health professionals and promoting excellence in the use of natural medicines to restore health. AARM has grown rapidly since its inception in 2010, now boasting over 725 members, forming one of the few truly integrative and collaborative multi-disciplinary professional medical associations in the world. As a result, the AARM Board of Directors is equally diverse with representation from folk herbalists to doctoral level physicians.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF RESTORATIVE MEDICINE

Restorative Medicine provides a whole dimension in clinical practice, a new approach that adds the scope of patient-specific instead of disease-specific medicine. Empowered by science- based novel scientific testing that can truly demonstrate the different patterns of fundamental metabolic imbalances, while objectively monitoring treatments pertaining to the patient biological individuality. True to its name, Restorative Medicine strives to support and restore health in such a way that medications may be discontinued in many cases once the health of the body has improved. The aim is to improve organ function as well as endocrine feedback and balance on a fundamental level, such that, cellular, metabolic, and functional improvements can be long lasting reducing the need for multiple pharmaceutical interventions. As the name Restorative Medicine implies, the principle is to actually restore fundamental balance and not simply suppress, palliate, or otherwise superficially treat symptoms. Many endocrine disorders and chronic diseases have a limited possibility to be overcome by conventional approaches. Restorative Medicine offers new scientific data that leads us not to conform or succumb but rather spearheading the rebirth of restorative health.

THE GOAL OF AARM

AARM strives to provide its members with cutting edge research and clinical protocols supporting clinicians in their goal to be more effective in treating their patients and restoring health and vitality. AARM members may take advantage of several professional support services including guidance and consulting with professionals skilled in clinical restorative medicine, conference lectures, and various educational literature. Additionally, AARM offers professional certification in Restorative Medicine, and holds an annual conference that has grown rapidly in popularity amongst many physicians and practitioners. AARM publishes a peer-reviewed professional medical journal, The Journal of Restorative Medicine, which released its first issue in 2012.

The focus of AARM is to provide members with educational resources about endocrine system disorders, with an emphasis on therapeutic approaches for treating hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, adrenal dysfunction, dysglycemia as well as menopausal and female hormonal imbalances. AARM also advocates for restorative medicine alternatives to chronic diseases, including digestive, respiratory, nervous, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and autoimmune diseases.

THE ANNUAL EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE OF AARM

The AARM annual conference bring together allopathic, osteopathic, and naturopathic physicians, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, and other allied health care professionals in a forum that provides information that can be immediately translated into their own clinical practice environments. The AARM conference provides unique educational opportunities for attendees presenting emerging research and up-to-date protocols that can empower physicians to more effectively treat their patients and build their practices.
